Linux for businesses
The IDA will also continue to encourage companies to embrace other non-proprietary technologies such as web services and Linux. 'Companies can embrace these technologies to simplify the integration of services on an open platform,' said Dr Tan. But it will probably be awhile before these technologies catch on.
Mr Andrew Chew, research manager for software at IDC Asia-Pacific, said that while interest in Linux is growing in the enterprise server market, take-up rates are still low. Linux currently controls about nine per cent of the enterprise server market in Singapore. He said: 'Whether interest translates into adoption remains to be seen.'
